Skeleton Coast & Kaokoland
Inhospitable coastline, seal colonies, rugged landscapes and fascinating people – this is what the northwest part of Namibia is about. The Skeleton Coast and Kaokoland, bordering Angola, provide some of the most extreme safari experiences in Africa – unlike anything else on the continent. A safari here is for those wanting something special.
Named after all the bones and shipwrecks littering the area the Skeleton Coast is not for the pampered visitors. It is a land devoid of the luxuries of on-call big game. Here is where the desert meets a freezing ocean, forming an eco-system of survival. Jackals roam the shores searching for weaknesses.
Kaokoland is characterised by rugged landscapes of mountains and valleys and in parts dissected by life-sustaining rivers. It is here where the desert elephant and rhino have found protection and where the Himba people reside in peace and in tune with the environment.
